Spanning an area from Lake Superior to the Quebec border, and from north of Algonquin Park to the James Bay coast, the North East region consists of eight  school boards and the North Eastern Ontario School Authorities.  Boards in the region average 32 schools per board, and an average enrolment of 8,960 students per board.  Boards and authorities in the region face similar challenges to those in other location in the province, however the geographic area boards in the region cover represents a significant challenge unique to the region.  Some boards can take up to five hours to drive from one school to another.
